19. Corbec, Masi
Tupungato, Argentina
Masi are better known in the Veneto than the lofty ranges of Argentina. With this wine they have taken an ancient Italian technique of drying grapes and adapted it for Argentinian grapes. 70% Corvina and the remainder Malbec, dried in the same process used to make Amarone, result in a wine with cherry, cocoa and vanilla. Great structure and length, made to tackle a hunk of beef perfectly!

27. Chateau de Laubade Bas Armagnac XO
For three generations the Lesgourgues family have been distilling and aging some of the region’s most venerable and highly awarded brandy. They even let hundreds of ewes loose amongst the vines in October for 6 months to help fertilise the vines in a sustainable fashion! The spirit is full of character with spice, orange zest and caramel amongst other flavours.
